Many children, sometimes without their parents, came to Curaçao and were temporarily placed with foster families. Two afternoons a week, Annemieke and Nadien Wielinga-Varsovia take care of some boys and girls from St. Maarten in the cultural center in Pietermaai (now called Pietermaai Art Space, known as Kurá di Arte at the time). All teachers in the complex support this program for six weeks giving free drama, music, art and dance lessons. Thanks to fundraising by six-year-old Anne and financial support from a private individual, most of the expenses are covered.[/et_pb_text][et_pb_4divi_masonry_gallery gallery_ids=”1088,1089,1090,1091,1092,1093,1094,1095,1096,1097,1098,1099,1100″ gallery_responsive=”off” gallery_columns=”6″ posts_number=”100″ show_title_and_caption=”off” _builder_version=”4.12.0″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”|-10px||-10px|false|false” border_color_all_image=”#FFFFFF” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_4divi_masonry_gallery][et_pb_gallery disabled_on=”on|on|on” _builder_version=”4.11.2″ _module_preset=”default” disabled=”on” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_gallery][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on St. Maarten in September 2017.
